- Θα δημιουργήσει τουλάχιστον 1343 άμεσες νέες θέσεις εργασίας κατά την περίοδο πλήρους λειτουργίας του έργου, καθώς και σημαντικό αριθμό θέσεων εργασίας κατά την κατασκευαστική περίοδο αλλά και σε επιχειρήσεις της αλυσίδας εφοδιασμού που θα σχετίζονται άμεσα ή έμμεσα με την επένδυση.
- Θα αναδείξει ως τουριστικό προορισμό την ηπειρωτική Χαλκιδική και θα επιμηκύνει την τουριστική περίοδο της περιοχής, λόγω των συμπληρωματικών υποδομών και υπηρεσιών της (προπονητικά κέντρα, γκολφ αίθουσα συνεδριάσεων για 1000 άτομα και μια σειρά από
εστιατόρια με θέα το λατομείο, τα εκτεταμένα διαμορφωμένο περιβάλλοντα χώρο και
τους καταρράκτες κ.α. )
Θα διαφοροποιήσει το υφιστάμενο τουριστικό προϊόν της Ελλάδας δημιουργώντας έναν επιπλέον σημαντικό πόλο προσφοράς διαφοροποιημένων υπηρεσιών, μοναδικό στη Νότια Ευρώπη.
- Θα αποφέρει σημαντικά έσοδα από φόρους για το κράτος και την τοπική κοινωνία.
- Θα αποφέρει σημαντική εισροή συναλλάγματος.
Ωστόσο, η πρωτοτυπία του ξενοδοχείου δεν εξαντλείται στο ύψος της χρηματοδότησης για την κατασκευή του αλλά στην τοποθεσία που θα το φιλοξενεί.
Ξεκινώντας από τη βάση του βουνού, το συγκρότημα θα χτιστεί
σε ένα πρώην ορυχείο σε βάθος 100 μέτρων, το οποίο μάλιστα διαθέτει και νερό.
Σχεδιασμένο από την εταιρεία Atkins, το νέο κτιριακό επίτευγμα θα διαθέτει 380
δωμάτια μοιρασμένα σε 19 ορόφους. Δύο όροφοι θα βρίσκονται κάτω από τη στάθμη
του νερού, ενώ θα υπάρχει ενυδρείο, υποβρύχιο εστιατόριο και φυσικά υποβρύχια
δωμάτια.
Το ξενοδοχείο θα είναι ορατό μόνο από την κοιλότητα του
ορυχείου ενώ εξωτερικά θα είναι σχεδόν αφανές, αφού θα προεξέχει μόνο 15 μέτρα
από το ύψος του εδάφους.
Ακριβώς απέναντί του και σε ίδιο ύψος, στο άλλο άκρο του
κρατήρα, θα βρίσκεται ένας εντυπωσιακός καταρράκτης, προσφέροντας μαγευτικό
θέαμα στους ενοίκους.
Η κατασκευή του ξενοδοχείου, εντάσσεται σε ένα ευρύτερο
σχέδιο δημιουργίας ενός μεγάλου θεματικού πάρκου στην περιοχή, που θα
περιλαμβάνει αθλητικά κέντρα, εστιατόρια και συνεδριακά κέντρα. Η τιμή του κάθε
δωματίου αναμένεται να διαμορφωθεί στα 300 δολάρια τη βραδιά, ενώ το
εντυπωσιακό οίκημα έχει σχεδιαστεί να ολοκληρωθεί το 2015.

Shimao Wonderland Intercontinental – Songjiang, China
This project is the winning entry of an international design competition. The subject of the competition was a up to 400 bed, 5 star resort hotel located in an unusual situation within a large water filled quarry in the Songjiang district close to Shanghai. This area of Songjiang is of particular natural beauty and the proposed structure needed to harmonise with a very high quality environment close to Shanghai. The client's brief called for a unique solution to a problem of siting the hotel in such a way that only 2 levels projected above the rock face of the 90m deep quarry. Particular request for underwater public areas and guestrooms was successfully accommodated in the design. The concept adopted the image of a green hill cascading down the rock face as a series of terraced landscaped hanging gardens. The central vertical circulation atrium connecting the quarry base with the ground level is in the form of a transparent glass 'waterfall',. Curved wings of the main body of the guest rooms will enclose internal atria which will utilise the existing rugged rock face as a feature. This spectacular 90m high cliff will be overlooked by the guest room access balconies and will contain restaurants and cafes at the base.
The design centres around the water theme both visually and in its varied functions. The lowest level of the hotel will contain a water sports and leisure and spa complex with a swimming pool. An underwater level will house a restaurant and guest rooms facing a themed aquarium. Above the ground level will be the main entrance lobby, conference facility for 1000 people, banqueting centre and a series of restaurants with views of the quarry, the extensively landscaped surrounding areas and waterfalls. An extreme sports centre for activities such as rock climbing and bungee jumping is cantilevered over the quarry and accessed by lifts from the water level of the hotel. Sustainability is high on the agenda in our design, ranging from utilising green roof for the structures above the ground level to proposed geothermal energy extraction. It is also intended to use photovoltaic solar panels and to utilise the solar heat energy within the tall 'waterfall' atrium.
The project is currently in detailed design stage and the construction of the infrastructure has already commenced with completion planned before 2013 . The hotel will be operated by the Intercontinental Hotels Group and will be one of their flagship hotels in China.
The winning architectural team includes Paul Rice, Hu Yali, Zhang Jian and Ding Fang from Atkins Shanghai led by Martin Jochman from Atkins in Bristol.

Now the country is taking the pole position in digging “groundscrapers” -- enormous structures built mostly underground.
Most recently, ground has been broken on construction of a high-end hotel at the foot of Shanghai’s Tianmashan (天马山, a k a Tianma Mountain) in a 100-meter-deep pit.
Developed by Shanghai Shimao Property Group and to be managed by InterContinental Hotels Group, the hotel, named InterContinental Shimao Shanghai Wonderland, is expected to extend 19 stories into the bottom of the pit.
It's due to open in late 2014 or early 2015.
Once completed, the deepest story of the luxury resort will be approximately 700 meters lower than the top floor of the world’s-highest-hotel-to-be, the Shanghai Tower J Hotel in Shanghai Tower, set for completion around the same time.
19 stories, 380 rooms, underwater restaurant
The lowest 20 meters are filled with stagnant rainwater, which the hotel will retain.
“The pit has served as a quarry since the 1950s,” said Yao Qi (姚琪), senior branding manager of Shanghai Shimao Property Group. "It has been abandoned since the year 2000."
Shimao purchased the surrounding land in 2006 in order to build Shimao Shanghai Wonderland, a large-scale theme park integrating hospitality, leisure and entertainment elements. The hotel is planned as part of the wonderland complex.
Construction of the 380-room InterContinental Shimao Shanghai Wonderland commenced last month.
The 19-story hotel will have three levels above ground, and 16 underground, including an underwater restaurant.
“A 60-meter glass curtain will be built to mimic a waterfall next to the resort’s main structure,” said Yao.
Designed by UK-based engineering firm Atkins, the company behind the ostentatious Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, the quarry hotel design bagged a Gold Medal at last year's commercial real estate MIPIM Asia Awards.
Extreme sports in plan
Hotel planners are considering taking advantage of the site's surrounding cliffs by hosting activities such as rock climbing and bungee jumping.
Industry experts believe nightly room rates will start from RMB 2,000 (US$320), twice the price currently charged by nearby five-star hotels.
Shimao is investing a total of RMB 3.5 billion (US$555 million) in the 428,200-square-meter Shimao Shanghai Wonderland, of which RMB 600 million (US$95 million) will go toward the subterranian resort.
The Shanghai property group has yet to reveal detailed plans for the rest of the wonderland complex.
